In the past year in Hungary, volunteers and civil society organisations have launched an initiative to hold a Citizens Assembly in Hungary as well, that can potentially influence the political decision making process. We will hold the first official Hungarian Citizens’ Assembly in 2020 in Budapest, on the topic of climate change in cooperation with Budapest City Council. The initiating civil society network is coordinated by DemNet and Sortition Foundation.
Citizens Assembly is the representative group of 40-100 participants of a certain community. Participants deliberate on a given issue for multiple days, with the help of experts and facilitators. Everyone’s opinion counts, and the final, collective decisions are made by the Assembly after careful deliberation and considering different views and solutions.
